STUDENT CONDUCTORS HONORS RECITAL
The Student Conductors Honors Recital was created to give advanced student conductors more experience conducting an ensemble. On top of taking conducting courses at Ohio University, instrumental students have the opportunity to audition for these positions every winter. The audition process consists of an interview, conducting various patterns of different tempos and styles, and lastly two prepared audition pieces selected by the directors. Out of the students auditioned, 5 to 6 students are selected for the concert. Student conductors are fully in charge of running rehearsals with the Symphonic Band, receiving feedback from both Dr. Richard Suk and Dr. Andrew Trachsel after each rehearsal. Student conductors meet with the ensemble for approximately 20-25 minutes each week for two months in preparation for the concert. The ensemble consists of mostly music majors and some non-majors of various age levels.
