HIGH SCHOOL BAND CAMPS
|
While I was in college, I was fortunate to be an instructor at a variety of band camps. Each summer, I worked up to 3 camps, either working with the flutes, clarinets, or field commanders. I would lead sectionals, assist with marching on the field, and be an active helper during full band rehearsals. I even assisted in writing and teaching dances for Steubenville Catholic Central High School. The other band camps that I have worked include Chillicothe High School, Lakewood High School, Lancaster High School, Groveport Madison High School, and Berne Union High School. I gained experience working with both competition and show style bands as well as different sizes of bands. I also gained insight about the different locations that band camps can take place, experiencing camps at campsites, college campuses, and the local high schools themselves.

I worked with the Groveport Madison High School Field Commanders in the summer of 2014. Groveport Madison is under the direction of Bart Pickenpaugh. Here is a recording of the conducting routine that we collaboratively created at band camp. This was after working on fundamentals and critiquing the routine a couple times early in the week. This was their opener for their competition show entitled "What Goes Around", which is an abstract show based on rounds and canons.

I worked with the Steubenville Catholic Central High School Band in the summer of 2014. The band is under the direction of Eric Zalenski. I worked with the clarinet and flute sections, as well as writing and teaching the dances for two of their shows that season. This video is immediately following the teaching of the first dance break at band camp. The band is dancing to a midi recording of the drum break.
