PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
CNAfME
|
At Ohio University, I was heavily involved with our Collegiate National Association for Music Education (CNAfME). This organization consists of music education students that wish to better serve the School of Music and Athens community. The group also focuses on professional development for students by bringing in guest speakers and holding meetings to discuss various topics. CNAfME holds fundraisers to raise money for the School of Music such as ice cream sundae sales and T-shirt sales. This organization also opens many opportunities to volunteer at different music events including but not limited to District and OU Honor Bands/ Choirs, Solo and Ensemble, instrument petting zoos, and even local marching band contests. I was a member of this organization for four years and I served at the Historian of the chapter for one year.

PI KAPPA LAMBDA
Pi Kappa Lambda is the National Music Honor Society. Pi Kappa Lambda is the only college honor society for music and is so recognized by its membership in the Association of College Honor Societies. I was selected to in this group by members of the Beta Phi Chapter at Ohio University in April 2015. Members of this organization are selected from the highest-ranking students from junior, senior, and graduate classes based on scholarship, musicianship, and personal character.

OMEA PROFESSIONAL CONFERENCE
The Ohio Association for Music Education (OMEA) holds a conference every year in a major city in Ohio. The conference is a great place for music teachers of all subject areas and grade levels to come together and learn how to improve their classrooms. The conference holds various workshops, performances, vendors, and even reading clinics for music teachers and students to explore. I have attended the conference as a college student through Ohio University, travelling to conference with other students in our CNAfME chapter. I have learned so much about music education and I have developed new ideas that I hope to implement in my future program. I have even had the pleasure of performing at OMEA with the Ohio University Wind Symphony in 2014.

CCM CONDUCTING SYMPOSIUM
In February of 2015, I participated in the first ever Wind Conducting Symposium at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music (CCM). The symposium was hosted by Dr. Glenn Price of CCM and special guest conductor and world famous Jerry Junkin (pictured left). The symposium opened with open rehearsals with the ensembles at CCM and the conductors leading up to a concert that evening. Over the next two days, I had the opportunity to observe many other conductors that attended the workshop as well, as they worked with the wind ensembles at CCM and received feedback from both professional conductors. The symposium also consisted of other break out sessions, where we interacted with other professors and guest speakers and learned more about rehearsal techniques, selecting appropriate repertoire, and becoming an effective band director. I was one of five other undergraduate students attending the symposium and I was heavily involved in the evaluation process of the events. This symposium was a great experience and I can't wait to attend even more.
